Our Story

Plaza was founded in 1938 as Friendly Tabernacle Baptist Church and has served the NoDa and Plaza communities ever since. As the church aged, its passion for the surrounding communities never waned. As a result, on May 2, 2021, Plaza unanimously elected to partner with Hickory Grove Baptist Church to implement a renewed vision and identity in the community. Through partnering with Hickory Grove, Plaza received a new pastor, a core team of new people, ministry resources, and physical upgrades to the building. Plaza is thrilled to experience organizationally what the gospel does spiritually.

The gospel is a message about how the sacrifice of Jesus gives us grace, hope, and new life. Having received grace, we seek to give grace to others. With a renewed hope, we offer the hope of Christ to our neighbors. With our new start, we point to the new start that God provides through the gospel.
